Voice VLAN on HPE OfficeConnect 1920S.
Introduction
In this post we will configure voice vlan on HPE OfficeConnect 1920S switch. The switch will be used for connecting Cisco 8851 IP phone, which will detect the Voice VLAN and get an IP address from the correct VLAN. The PC connected through the IP phone will remain in a Data VLAN.
The exact model of the switch used in this demo is HPE OfficeConnect Switch 1920S 48G 4SFP PPoE+ (370W) JL386A.
Configuration
Step 1. Create VLANs.
The first thing we need to do it create required VLANs on the switch. Log into the switch and go to VLAN -> Configuration menu, click on Add to create the required VLANs. In my demo VLAN 30 is a Voice VLAN, I also have other VLANs(100,114,124) as you can see below.

Step 2. Enable Voice VLAN on a port.
Let’s enable Voice VLAN on a port and make it tagged.
Go to VLAN -> Port Membership select the Voice VLAN (30 in my demo) from the dropdown box, then select the port (port 11 in my demo) and click the Edit button.

Once you click the Edit button, the configuration window for the particular port will open.
Make sure the Participation is set to Include and Tagging is set to Tagged. Click Apply button. The configuration for port 11 in my demo looks like this:

Step 3. Enable Data VLAN on a port.
Now let’s enable the Data VLAN on a port and make in untagged.
Go to VLAN -> Port Membership select the Data VLAN (124 in my demo) from the dropdown box, then select the port (port 11 in my demo) and click the Edit button.

Make sure the Participation is set to Include and Tagging is set to Untagged. Then click Apply. The port configuration for Data VLAN in my demo looks like this:

Step 4. Verify VLAN assignments.
Let’s verify you have the correct VLANs enabled on the port.
Go to VLAN -> Port Configuration and make sure the port has the appropriate VLANs enabled. Screenshot below shows that my switch has VLAN 30 – Tagged and VLAN 124 – Untagged on port 11.

Step 5. Configure Auto Voice VLAN.
The next thing we need to do is enable Voice VLAN feature globally on the switch. Go to VLAN -> Auto Voice VLAN menu and set Voice VLAN Admin Mode to Enabled.
Now click Add button to configure a specific port for Auto Voice VLAN feature. Select the port you are going to connect the IP phone to, then set Voice VLAN Interface Mode to VLAN ID and Voice VLAN Interface Value to Voice VLAN ID. Use the screenshot below as a reference.

Now, the Auto Voice VLAN Configuration page should look similar to this:

Step 6. Verification
Now you can connect an IP phone to the configured port on the switch and the computer to the PC port of the IP phone. Each device will reside in its own VLAN.
Don’t forget to click Save Configuration button in the top right corner, otherwise all the changes will be lost after reboot.
Conclusion
Now you know how to configure HPE OfficeConnect switch for connecting IP phones. Thank you for reading.
